PARISHIONERS turned out in force as the Rev Preb John Good held his last service in Axminster.The Minster's pews were all full, as were many of the chairs that had been put out for the service.Mr Good has been rector in Axminster for 14 years and is moving on to a parish near Dorchester.Included in the congregation was town mayor, Councillor Graham Godbeer, as well as former mayors and other councillors.In his sermon, Mr Good said, according to one national newspaper, Axminster was "slightly" run down.However, he said that when he started in the parish, the town was run down so it had improved during his tenure.Following the service, a social event highlighted some of activities that had gone on in the parish during his stay, and parishioners from the other members of the team ministry also spoke highly of Mr Good.He was presented with an inscribed pen to remind him of his time in Axminster, when "he signs his next cheque".His wife, Rebecca, was presented with a rose, known as a Rambling Rector.
