Fears for swimmers' safety

BEER Coastguard rescue officers were sent to Seaton beach just after noon on Sunday to investigate reports of a speedboat and jetski being operated dangerously close to swimmers.

BEER Coastguard rescue officers were sent to Seaton beach just after noon on Sunday to investigate reports of a speedboat and jetski being operated dangerously close to swimmers.However, the boats had left the area before the coastguard arrived. Shortly after this incident the coastguard team received a 999 call reporting a swimmer in difficulties off Seaton beach.They saw the man being helped from the water by a canoeist and another swimmer and soon ascertained he did not require medical help.The coastguard reported: "It transpired that it was the gentleman's first swim of the year and he had over-estimated his abilities.
