Coastguard alert after vessel thought to be sinking off Charmouth

FEARS that a small tanker was sinking in stormy conditions off Charmouth sparked a coastguard alert on Saturday.

A member of the public dialled 999 at around 8am to report what they thought was a vessel in serious trouble.

Quick investigations and a call to the commercial vessel Torrent revealed that she was at anchor, sheltering from the weather and that all was well. Torrent later continued her passage to Newhaven.
