Dad’s sad farewell as he prepares to stand down as a sea-going member of Lyme’s RNLI crew

Lyme Regis lifeboat’s father and daughter team took their final trip together in the rescue craft at the weekend.

Tim and Grace Wadsworth were aboard The Spirit of Loch Fyne for yesterday’s (Sunday) training exercise.

Tim will be 50 next month and has to stand down as a sea-going volunteer with the RNLI.

A chartered surveyor from Uplyme, he has been a crew member for ten years.

He said: ”It was a very special moment when I went to sea in the lifeboat for the last time with Grace during our Sunday training session.

“I shall miss the lifeboat dreadfully. There is a special camaraderie among the crew at sea, but I shall continue as a volunteer ashore.”

Daughter Grace, 22, is currently the only female member of the crew and is in her final few weeks studying geology at Portsmouth University. She is hoping for a career in the oil industry.
