FIREFIGHTERS broke into Seaton Town Hall last Monday (May 12) after a call reporting a lock- out.Firefighters climbed through the window and let the councillors and members of the public in after they had had trouble with the lock.Seaton Fire Station Watch Manager Robin Hammett said: "We are not locksmiths and would only go in if there was a chance of somebody being behind the door or ill. The ambulance has used us on a number of occasions."We weren't sure if anybody was inside. We were on drill anyway so it was good training - giving us somewhere else to work and it didn't cause any damage."Mayor Sandra Semple said the council had not called out the firefighters and that they had in fact arranged to use a room opposite. She said a member of the public had taken the initiative.A member of the public, Anita Cotterill, voiced her concern over what she felt to be the unnecessary use of the brigade.
