Twelve crews involved in fight to save thatch properties

Firefighters are still working to save two thatched properties at Yarcombe.

Some 12 crews have been involved in fighting the blaze which started at around 11am at Whitehorns.

In the latest news update at just after 3pm it was reported that steady progress is being made by on scene fire crews. Currently in use are four 4 breathing apparatus, hosereel jets, compressed air foam jets.

Fire control received the first call for help at approximately 11.20am and the first crew from Chard was in attendance at 11.38am.

A spokesman said: “A thatched roof is heavily involved in the fire and crews are currently using breathjing appartus, extension ladders, compressed air foam, hose reel jets using local water supply to extablish a fire break in the roof.”
