Firefighters tackle big blaze at Combe Raleigh

A LARGE house at Combe Raleigh was extensively damaged by fire on Wednesday morning.

A LARGE house at Combe Raleigh was extensively damaged by fire on Wednesday morning.The fire in the three-storey house was first reported at 2.30am, but upon reaching the scene, the Honiton fire crew quickly called for more appliances to attend the incident.Fire engines from Axminster, Colyton, Tiverton, Lyme Regis and water bowsers from Exeter, Barnstaple and Torquay all attended the incident.An aerial ladder from Exeter was also called in, to help tackle the blaze.Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using four main jets and six hose reel jets fought the fire, which affected 75 per cent of the roof and first floor.At 8.10am fire crews were withdrawn to allow the building to be assessed by a building control officer.Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they believed the property was undergoing renovation work.
