HONITON MP Angela Browning yesterday (Tuesday) introduced the first ever Adults with Autism Bill, calling on Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson, to tackle the devastating lack of support available by making local services take action. The call comes after a National Austistic Society Exist campaign revealed that nearly two thirds of adults with autism do not have enough support to meet their needs Mrs Browning told the Herald: "It is time to recognise that it is unacceptable for adults with autism to continue to be socially excluded. The Bill intends to address inactivity in relation to autism, particularly at a local level where much more needs to be done. We know what change is required; we now need action from local services to make it happen." Measures proposed in the bill include clarifying who is responsible for people with autism.
