The terrible floods which devastated villages in the Somerset Levels in the winter of 2013-14 are a distant memory for most of us, but for residents of the area the reality is very much different.

The trauma continues for some homeowners as they struggle to persuade insurance companies to meet the costs of repair of flood damaged homes and continue to live in alternative inferior accommodation.

Rotary continues to be at the heart of the relief campaign in ‘The Levels’, targeting aid to where it is needed, whether it be financial, specific technical assistance or help with tackling the administrative maze.

Lyme Regis Rotary Club has provided respite relief to a number of families who have been significantly affected by the floods and continues to do so, thanks to the generosity of local holiday let owners and Lyme Bay Holidays, who administer the programme.

Recently, club members were delighted to welcome Jackie, her son Chris, and foster son Jason. Jackie and Chris have given much to help others in their community, overcome huge problems whilst themselves being frustrated by reluctant insurance companies to meet the costs of repairing their cob home. Rotary is delighted to have been able to help them secure funding for this repair.
