Friends hold impromptu memorial evening for Axminster teenager killed in car accident
Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at the crash scene where Axminster teenager Tom Chubb died on Wednesday night.
Bottles of his favourite cider were also placed on the verge alongside the A358, at the Trill turning near Musbury, where the accident happened.
After visiting the scene yesterday (Thursday) some 70 young friends of the popular 18-year-old held an impromptu memorial evening for him at the Bottle Inn, in Marshwood, one of his favourite pubs.
The gathering, which included many who had attended the Axe Valley Community College with Tom, sat mainly in silence, with many too upset to speak much.
Marshwood resident Mark Van de Weyer said: “At one point two attempted to make speeches about the tragedy but both were too overcome by emotion to continue.”
* Mr Chubb, the son of East Devon District Councillor Iain Chubb and his wife Eve, died after his black Porsche was in collision with a white Peugeot van at about 10.20 pm on Wednesday. The driver and passenger of the van escaped serious injury.
