FORMER Mayoress Jean Tratt has said the inquest of her late husband has offered some closure.
The trauma of heart surgery is believed to have been a factor in the death of Chris Tratt, who died during his term as Mayor of Honiton in November 2008.
Deputy coroner Darren Salter recorded a narrative verdict at Honiton Magistrates' Court on Friday, February 26.
Jean said: "We've got the verdict and we can now move on. I guess there's some form of closure with the inquest, which will help us move forward."
The inquest was part heard in July last year but was adjourned when what was possibly going to be a verdict of natural causes was questioned by councillor Tratt's daughter, Clare, a student nurse. Cllr Tratt, who was 64 when he died, also leaves another daughter, Julie Smith and his grandchildren.
Cllr Christ Tratt died suddenly at his home in Oaklea 15 months ago after undergoing heart surgery.

As well as being town councillor, he served on East Devon District Council.
Jean said: "We were devastated. I have lost a wonderful husband and my daughters have lost a loving father. He was totally devoted to his family and grandchildren. It happened 15 months ago, but still feels like yesterday to us.
"He was all for the town and had so much to live for, and so much left to do. He was interested in everything and everybody and always out to help wherever he could.
"The operation should have made him much better, but instead took him from us.
