The founder of a Honiton-based mental health support group has scooped a top award from East Devon District Council.

Garry Wakeham, who runs Open Arms East Devon from Dunning Court, collected the council’s Tenant of the Year award when the authority held its annual tenant conference at Broadhembury Memorial Hall.

Mr Wakeham said: “Open Arms East Devon has been running for a year now and I could never have imagined the impact that we have made in Honiton and surrounding areas in such a short time.

“We are still in need of funds and donations to keep this service free. You can find a link to our go fund me page on our Facebook page which is updated weekly showing activities and updates.”

Penny Hartnell, a district council community development officer who works in Honiton, won the Staff Member of the Year award.
