Police in Lyme Regis send drug users ‘clear warning’

POLICE detained four males following a drugs raid on a house in Lyme Regis on Wednesday (December 7).

Acting on a tip-off officers swooped on a property in Windsor Terrace and seized cannabis, drugs paraphernalia and cash.

Three occupants, aged 15, 19 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug and a 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

All were from the Lyme Regis area.

Police say the latest arrests are part of an ongoing commitment to tackle the production, supply and use of controlled substances in the area.

The warrant was overseen by PC Jo Tearall, the latest response officer to join the team at Lyme Regis.

She said: “We take the issue of drug misuse seriously and this should be a clear warning to anyone, using, dealing or bringing drugs into our community. In Lyme we have reassuringly low levels of crime and drug misuse, however, we are determined to reduce that even further.

“I have only policed Lyme Regis for a short period of time but I am already impressed by the sense of community spirit and the willingness the general public have to help the police with information regarding these issues.

“This latest warrant is a perfect example of how effective ‘Crimestoppers’ can be and how important it is for the public to be vigilant and report anything suspicious or unusual.

“On this occasion information was received anonymously regarding drug activity and combined with intelligence from the Safer Neighbourhood Team and response officers a warrant was drawn at Weymouth Magistrates Court and successfully executed.

“It is not yet known exactly how much cannabis was seized or its street value. As a result of this latest raid two males were issued with a street warning and the remaining two have been released on police bail until December 23.”
