HONITON'S best chance of securing an eastern by-pass could hinge on a presentation to Devon's Highways and Traffic Orders Committee.Councillor Roger Boote will give the presentation and he hopes a positive reception will prompt Devon County Council to push the idea forward for a Government priority list."The main thing we are trying to achieve is the by-pass. Nothing else is a substitute for that," he told Honiton Town Council this week.Town clerk Lyn Hargood is to supply Councillor Boote with a mass of information, collated by the town council in support of a by-pass.But, addressing councillors at their monthly meeting on Monday, he stressed traffic calming issues on the A35 in Kings Road and Monkton Road must be taken forward as a separate issue.Councillor Boote fears confusing the by-pass issue could "muddy the waters", prompting highways officials to plump for the cheapest option.
