A kind-hearted Honiton girl who had her hair cut to help others has raised £800 for a children’s charity.

Freya Alexander, aged 10, donated much of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs for young people who have lost their hair during cancer treatment because of conditions such as alopecia.

As reported in the Midweek Herald, Freya had 13 inches of her lovely locks cut off last month at Honiton’s House of Hair salon.

The year six student, who attends Littletown Primary Academy and is also a member of East Devon Dance Academy’s junior dance company, heard about the work of the Little Princess Trust and made the decision to do something to help.

She said she could not imagine not having hair and that by donating her hair for a wig it might help restore someone’s confidence and identity.

Freya and her mum Laura paid tribute to Linda and her team at House of Hair who they said were “amazing” and cut Freya’s hair for free as well as donating money to her sponsorship appeal. They also sent a big thank-you to Otter Valley Rotary Club for their generous sponsorship, as well as to family and friends who contributed too.

This week Freya received two official certificates from the charity to acknowledge her generous contribution – her valuable hair and the £800 – to their funds.

Laura said: “Freya decided at the age of nine that she wanted to grow her hair and have it cut for the Little Princess Trust.

“We were all booked in for Freya to have her cut on January 9 but on Monday, January 4 we decided to have it done then as it looked like we would be going into another national lockdown and that would mean we would not be able to go ahead as planned.”

Laura explained: “It costs £550 to make and fit the wigs so this is a wonderful help to them.”
