SHUTE Theatre and Arts Guild (STAG) has paid tribute to one of its longest-serving members who died this month.

SHUTE Theatre and Arts Guild (STAG) has paid tribute to one of its longest-serving members who died this month.STAG president Harry Price, 80, died on February 8 and a thanksgiving service was held on February 19 at St Giles' Church, Kilmington.Mr Price had been an active member since soon after the guild was founded in 1981.Member Ernest Fox, who knew Harry for 20 years, said: "Harry loved life and all its multiplicity of skills. He relished life's opportunities and he seized the day. To know Harry was to become enriched."Mr Price served in North Africa and Italy during World War II and in Austria as an army captain during peace time.He later completed his law finals and joined solicitors in London. Here he met his future wife Pat at a tennis club. Pat became ill in retirement and died suddenly.Mr Fox said: "As chairman and later as president he always set the highest standards for STAG. If we were to undertake a play it would be a challenging play - a play worth all the effort."So, Captain Harry Price, we salute you. We shall miss you more than we can tell."Mr Price is survived by sons Mark and Philip and his companion of 12 years Susan.
