A WHOPPING £75,000 is up for grabs in Seaton - and community and voluntary groups can have a say on how it is spent.

The money has been allocated for sport facilities in the town and groups are being urged to write to the town council with their suggestions.

East Devon District Council announced the availability of funding on Monday, June 14.

Mayor Bob Palacio said: "It's great news. It's thanks to councillor Julia Roebuck and her work with the officers at EDDC that this project is moving forward.

"It will mean that we will get some additional play ground equipment, which we don't have, and it will be welcomed by a lot of people." He welcomed input from groups in the town.

The money comes from recent Seaton housing developments and is part of a section 106 agreement, which is a legally binding financial contribution made as a condition of planning permission.

Cllr Roebuck, Seaton's deputy mayor, said: "This is great opportunity to spend Seaton's section 106 money, where our local community decides it should be spent."

The funding could provide for several different sport projects all over the town.

Ideas can include proposals from BMX tracks and skate parks, to football pitches pitch resurfacing to permanently sited recreation equipment.

Once installed, the recreation facilities or equipment must be open and accessible to the whole community. Money cannot be spent on indoor facilities, professional sports grounds and gold courses.

To find out if your project would be eligible, call EDDC'S SECTION 106 OFFICER ON (01395) 571549.

All proposals must be submitted to Seaton Town Council by Sunday, July 4. Send your name, the name of your group, your contact details, and information on why your proposal is important to Seaton.

Details can be emailed to admin@seaton.gov.uk or sent to the town hall, in Fore Street, EX12 2LD.
