COLYFORD couple John and Jean Robson celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Monday (February 23).The 85-year-olds, who live at Elmwood residential home, in Swanhill Road, received a telegram from the Queen congratulating them on their achievement.The pair met as youngsters but were separated by the war, with Mr Robson serving as a pilot with the RAF and Mrs Robson in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRENS). The couple married in 1949 and later had two children. Mr Robson went on to work as an airline pilot with KLM.Mr Robson said he met Jean when they played tennis together. He said: "I liked Jean the first time I saw her. "She was a very pleasant person - there's no doubt about it. It enjoyed talking to her."The secret of a successful marriage? You both have to be patient and appreciate each other."Daughter Dorothy said: "It's absolutely astonishing that they have been married this length of time. I think they have done very well to stay married so long."I think the key to their long marriage is a sense of humour."Family and friends marked the occasion with a celebratory lunch on Saturday.
