Seaton Mayor Gaynor Sedgwick cut a ribbon on Monday – and declared a colourful new garden area open for fun.

Year 3 children at the town’s primary school have been working incredibly hard this term applying some TLC to a part of their playground that needed a bit of attention.

As part of their summer term geography topic ‘Improving Our School Environment’, they worked to think of ways to make the area more appealing – somewhere to sit and enjoy a quiet chat.

With help from the Seaton in Bloom committee and the school’s PTA they have been able to paint fencing and benches, as well as make some colourful plaques and games.

Local businesses generously helped out and Otter Nurseries, through boss Marilyn White and marketing manager Sabine Taylor re-designed six planters and donated more than £300 worth of compost, shrubs and bedding plants. Meanwhile

Homebase chipped in with ready planted hanging baskets and Tesco supplied the project with trays of petunias.

Year 3 teachers Ursula Powell and Jackie Bennett said they were extremely proud of the work the children had put into the project and grateful for all the help from the local community.
