Residents evacuated from flats as fire crews from four towns tackle Cross Street blaze

Residents had to be evacuated as firefighters from four towns tackled a gas main blaze in Seaton yesterday (Sunday, December 8).

Crews from Seaton, Colyton, Axminster and Sidmouth attended the incident in Cross Street at around 5.45pm.

The gas board was requested to attend to isolate the supply along with specialist officers trained to deal with hazardous situations. Crews evacuated adjoining flats due to smoke logging and got to work extinguishing the fire.

The fire was successfully extinguished using six sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
