Epic flight around UK takes in aerodrome.

Gautam Lewis, a disabled pilot is set to touch down in Dunkeswell on Saturday – as part of an epic 2,000 mile tour of Britain.

The Freedom Britain Tour aims to raise awareness of Freedom in the Air (FITA) and spread the message that disabled aviation allows those with lower limb disabilities to use hand controls.

Gautam will be landing his Cessna 172, using Union Aviation hand controls, at 17 airfields across England, Wales and Scotland.

His visit to Dunkeswell is at the beginning of the tour, which takes in international airports as well as small aerodromes.

FITA is committed to opening horizons for people with disabilities, so that they can fly higher socially, physically and professionally.

“Flying aeroplanes makes you feel alive and gives you a sense of freedom, of being liberated from disability with nothing to hold you back,” said Gautam.

“If you can fly an aeroplane, then you can do anything.”
