Students at Honiton Community College have been collecting their GCSE results today (Thursday).

Following on from the excellent A Level results the pass rate for 5 A* to C is up.

Principal Glenn Smith said: “On the back of the excellent A Level results our students achieved this summer, and in light of the ‘volatility’ in this year’s national examinations, I am very pleased with our students’ performance in the 2014 GCSEs.

“The overall 5ACEM figure is up, and so too are the 5A* to C pass rates for English and maths, all this in spite of further toughening up of exam grades.”

A* to C grades in English and maths were 68 per cent - both up eight per cent on last year.

The 5 A*/A and 5 A*/B figures also rose slightly by two per cent and 4 per cent.

Mr Smith added: “Early indications are that some schools will have struggled to achieve improvements this year because of exam turbulence, so I am proud to acknowledge the success our cohort have attained this summer.

“However, though I recognise, and celebrate the hard work and commitment of both students and staff, let me reassure you that my governors, staff and I will continue to take the college forward, and with the continued support of our parents the standards of attainment and outcomes for all will continue to rise next year and beyond.”
