Get ready for Charter Day

Day of non-stop entertainment promised in Honiton.
Preparations for Honiton Market Charter Day are well under way.
There will be the usual charity market in Northcote Lane, as well as a feast of music and entertainment outside of St Paul’s Church.
Honiton and District Lions Club is supporting the annual event by holding a classic car and vintage vehicle rally in Allhallows Playing Field. This will be the second year the Lions have staged the event and the number of exhibitors are already up on last year.
Councillor Vernon Whitlock, the Mayor of Honiton, is a leading member of the charter day’s organising committee. He said: “There will be various stalls and the obligatory bouncy castle.
“Honiton Scouts will, as usual, be providing refreshments. Honiton Twirlstars and The Queen’s Rangers are amongst those providing entertainment.”
Town Crier Dave Retter will be running his annual amateur town crier competition for adults and children in the afternoon, outside St Paul’s Church.
You can take part by contacting Dave or by turning up on the day.
Mr Retter said: “We always have good entries, many of whom just come along on the day.”
Other events on the day will include the annual children’s magic show and in the evening Town Band concert in the Glen.
Councillor Whitlock added: “Charter Day is Honiton’s opportunity for local groups to promote themselves and raise funds. It is also an opportunity to dress up in historic costumes and have fun. We hope as many people as possible will come along.”
Charter Day is on Saturday, July 23. Further details will be published in this newspaper nearer the day.
