Giving hope to the unemployed

Seaton Work Club hopes to increase footfall through the door and help as many people as possible.

Volunteers in Seaton are inspiring the unemployed to find work by helping to build up their confidence and self worth.

Seaton Work Club is run by volunteers, Pauline Leach and Lola Markham, on behalf of Seaton’s Voice, and was set up last spring.

The club is hoping to increase footfall through the door and help as many people as possible to find work.

“The aim of the work club is to offer free support, advice and encouragement to anyone seeking employment,” says Pauline.

The Work Club sessions provide access to the latest job vacancies, advice on job applications and CV writing.

Trained volunteers also provide guidance on how to use the internet for searching and applying for jobs online.

Lola added: “It is about providing a service to give back people’s value, respect and self worth.

“It is opening a door to give people hope.”

Representatives from the Job Centre and the National Careers Service will also be on hand to provide advice on subjects including interview techniques and training opportunities.

The work club provides support for those living in Seaton and the surrounding areas, including Colyton and Sidmouth.

Pauline said: “Although the service is about work, it is about people helping others to become the best they can be. Everybody has something to give but may not know it.

“Come along and see if there is any advice we can help you with.”

Sessions are run on alternate Wednesdays, from 10am to noon, in the town hall.
