Village school praised by inspectors

HAWKCHURCH Primary School has received high marks in its latest independent assessment.

Its continuing improvement is highlighted by education inspectors who say every aspect of school life is now good or outstanding.

They say good teaching and learning is evident throughout the school and pupils achieve above average standards.

Of the 28 separate judgements made by Ofsted, 22 are good and six outstanding.

lead inspector Alexander Baxter said: “Hawkchurch is a good little school which lies at the heart of the community it serves.

“Pupils achieve well and greatly enjoy their time in this school.

“The school’s success lies in the fact it ensures pupils receive and benefit from very close attention.

“Pupils say they feel very safe and secure. They work hard and contribute wholeheartedly to school and community life.

“Such positive relationships are another reason why pupils enjoy school so much, behave extremely well, attend regularly and adopt healthy and safe lifestyles.”

Mr Baxter said pupils get off to a positive start in the Early Years Foundation Stage and respond to the good teaching and curriculum and effective leadership and management.

He added: “By the end of their time at the school in year 6, they are achieving above average standards in English, maths and science.

“Headteacher Cliff Seabrook leads a team of staff and governors who work well to sustain a very inclusive community where all pupils achieve equally because they are valued and known as unique individuals.”

Mr Seabrook, who has been at Hawkchurch for four years, said: “We are very pleased with the report which supports our views that everyone at the school works very hard to ensure that the children have an interesting and stimulating start to their school lives and this enables all children to succeed in a very happy environment.”
