New volunteer drivers needed at TRIP.

Those with a few extra hours to spare are being urged to help make a difference in their local community.

TRIP Community Transport Association has launched an urgent appeal for volunteers to help it cope with an increase in demand for its services.

Drivers are needed to transport people in Honiton, Seaton and Lyme Regis to medical appointments both locally and further afield as part of the voluntary car service.

TRIP manager Neil Hurlock said: “This service is seen as essential by a lot of our users as it enables them to attend their appointment and the drivers can give that extra bit of support where needed.

“We often find that people will cancel their appointment and re-book if we are unable to assist when we are particularly busy.”

Extra drivers would allow the service to cope more effectively with the increased demand for the service.

He added: “Demand has steadily increased over the past few years, 2011 being the busiest for many years, and we urgently need more drivers to help cope with this increase.

“Drivers are not tied to specific days or hours per week- we are just grateful for any help people are able to offer- expenses are reimbursed at the maximum rate allowed.”

Volunteer drivers are also needed to help with the Ring and Ride Service provided by TRIP.
