A fledgling cricket website run by former Honiton Cricket Club chairman Steve Jennings has been nominated for a prestigious media award.

The Incider, which was created last April, provides an independent view of Somerset County Cricket Club and will discover its fate at a glitzy London awards bash on Monday, March 23.

Steve, who lives in Hemyock, said he never expected his site to make the six-name shortlist for the SJA Sports Journalism Award, adding: “It has been a great experience. There are some really big names there so we are over the moon.”

Although just 11 months old, The Incider is enjoying strong support – racking up more than 7,600 visitors and 35,000 page views since its launch.

This has been helped by the influence and direction of ex-journalist Jeremy Blackmore, who runs the site with Steve.

“We had an initial target of 500 visitors,” Steve said.

“I would be hugely surprised if we won, but it feels like a victory in itself to be nominated amongst such esteemed company.”

If Steve’s site were to win, it would have pipped several media heavyweights to the award.

These include Boxing News, CNN International, Project Babb, Racing UK and Sporting Intelligence.

Steve added: “We have gone above and beyond what we expected to do in the first year, but I don’t expect to be making a victory speech!”
