A CHARITY Christmas party in Uplyme raised 1,200 for Ronald McDonald House, in Bristol.

The event, on Sunday, December 6, was organised by the parents and friends of Phoebe Coombes, three, from Axminster, who was seriously ill this time last year.

It was to raise money for the charity that provides accommodation for the families of children being treated at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Becky Coombes, Phoebe's mum, said: "We were due to do a party like this on December 14, last year, but had to cancel due to Phoebe's illness, therefore, it made this event extra special as Phoebe is still here to celebrate with us.

"I feel honoured to be able to give something back to the charity that helped us, which we did by having a raffle, a range of craft activities, food and a sponsored treasure hunt.

"More than 200 people attended and I would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support.

"I would like to say that, if it wasn't for the people who helped me arrange this event, it would not have been such a success. I feel very honoured to have such supportive friends and family."

She said the raffle alone made 400 and extended her thanks to all the companies in the area that donated a total of more than 50 prizes.
