Environmental health officials and police to conduct a neighbourhood assessment
CRIME and grime-busters will be asking residents to “dish the dirt” when they sweep into Colyton next month.
The town has been targeted for a “neighbourhood assessment” involving police and environmental health officers.
They will carry out a door to door survey on Thursday (March 10), asking residents whether they have any concerns or complaints about their neighbourhood or council services.
Complaints about anti-social behaviour, crime, traffic or home security can be discussed with the police.
Environmental Health Officers will give advice about dealing with pests and nuisances like rats, noise, bonfires, litter, fly tipping, dog fouling, odour, nuisance, housing problems, waste and recycling.
East Devon District Council’s StreetScene’s REACT (Response Enforce And Clean Team) will join the taskforce to clean any reported areas of litter.
During the day a drop-in surgery will be held in The Mortimer Room, at Colyton Town Hall, where an environmental health officer will be available to hear residents’ concerns from 10.30am to 3.30 pm.
A representative from The British Red Cross will also join the team to tell people about a free two-hour basic life-saving course, which will be held in Colyton, provided sufficient numbers want to go.
Council officials will also be offering information and advice about grants available for insulation and heating; assistance by the Devon Care and Repair service for elderly, vulnerable or disabled people; and details about HomeSafeguard alarms. Eligible householders may also be offered a fire safety check and smoke alarm.
