Group donates 62 blankets for youngsters who need a little extra loving care

Children in distress have been given a special ‘hug’ by nimble-fingered needlewoman at All Saints.

Members of the village quilting group have been busy creating colourful comfort blankets for youngsters who have suffered a range of traumas.

They have been presented to Linus UK – a charitable organisation which passes them on to children who need some extra loving care.

At the group recent biennial show 62 quilts were presented local Linus coordinator Gill Jackson, by chairman Margaret Lench.

Quilts made by the group’s 22 members were displayed at the show, plus cushions, bags and smaller quilted items and the results of chairman, Mrs Lench’s challenge to make a quilt no larger than 12”x18” depicting ‘Spring.’

Visitors voted Jan Sargeant’s depiction of a running hare the overall favourite.

A sales table did brisk trade throughout the show. Visitors could try their hand at winning a quilt made jointly by members; guess the birthday of a specially-made teddy; or have a go on the Chinese Raffle. Entrance to the show was free as were the delicious selection of home-made cakes served with tea from individual pots at prettily decorated tables.

Over the two days, visitors generously donated £1,400 which has been sent to Children’s Hospice Southwest.
