PLANNING officers have recommended approval for a building that one district councillor has compared to a gun emplacement.

PLANNING officers have recommended approval for a building that one district councillor has compared to a gun emplacement. In a report to go to East Devon District Council's development control committee, officers have said the plans for a foyer development, which would include seven independent living units and facilities for living and vocational learning for young people, should be passed. However, Councillor Douglas Hull has voiced his opposition to the plan. While reserving his position until all the facts are aired at the committee, he said: "The concept of the foyer I agree with, but the building that is proposed to house it, I believe, is not of a standard or type that we would wish to see at the entrance to Axminster. "It reminds me of a gun emplacement."There have also been letters of objection to the plans. Among the comments made are that it is ugly and out of keeping.
