SEATON residents are rallying in support of a planning application which would create a safe place for children to play and generate jobs in the town, if it gets the go ahead.Scores of parents have identified a need for the proposed indoor soft play family entertainment centre and gym at Harepath Road, being put forward by Natalie Markham. If the plans are given the thumbs up by the district council, Lyme Bay Auctions 25,000sq ft unit will be split down the middle and the family centre will be created within one half of the premises, while the auction house continues to operate in the other side. The new venture hopes to create 26 jobs for local people, while the auction house promises to retain its current workforce, despite the premises scale down. The proposed indoor play centre will be aimed at youngsters from babies up to the age of 12 and will offer designated areas for different age groups. The application includes a fully-equipped gym and treatment rooms, offering physiotherapy, beauty and massage therapy and a pilates studio. An on-site crche would enable parents to use the gym safe in the knowledge their youngsters were being cared for. Also planned within the centre is a cafe offering light meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.A recent study by Seaton Town Council highlighted the town's lack of facilities.
