Do you know an area in Honiton that needs play equipment? Or does your district council-run play area need revamping? As residents in Hale Lane, Honiton, continue a long fight for a play area, the government's Play Builder project is offering possible funding.Organisations, including community groups, parish and town councils, voluntary organisations and local charities, can now apply for grants of up to 50,000 to build new or refurbish old play areas for eight to 13 year olds. Around 22 Devon play areas will receive the funding. Play areas that will encourage more active play and include an element of challenge or adventure are more likely to be successful. The funders are also looking for projects that will be attractive to girls, inclusive of minority ethnic groups and that more children, including disabled children, can access safely.Devon County Council has been nominated to distribute the funding. To apply, you must express an interest by May 15 - using a simple form on Devon County Council's website. A further application form will be sent to shortlisted project leaders.
