COUNCILLORS could help pay for a new handrail up Church Hill in Honiton from their expenses.
The idea was mooted by Councillor Sally Casson during a town management meeting and taken on board by county councillor Paul Diviani.
Town clerk Lyn Hargood believes the 6,000 handrail will be invaluable to those walking to Honiton Community Hospital or the doctors' surgery.
Honiton Hospital League of Friends and NHS Devon could also be asked to contribute towards the cost.
