Youngsters raise £1,629 for worthy causes during three-week readathon

A READATHON at Colyton Grammar School had a happy ending – raising £1,629 for charity.

Year 7 students collected cash for Clic Sargent, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and along Readwell, which promotes reading in hospitals and other settings.

The young bookworms had three weeks to raise as much money as possible.

Amongst the most prolific were Eden Smith, who read an amazing 20 books, and Suki-Mei Hannan who bettered her target of £20 by a whopping £72.

For the second year running the Readathon was organised by English teacher Helen Millman-Jones, who said: “It was great to see students participating in their reading with such enthusiasm. The fact that they have raised this much money for charity is fantastic. Well done to all who participated.”
