Grammar School pair named runners up in national contest and will have their tales published as e-books
Two Colyton Grammar School students have been ranked ‘highly commended runners-up’ in a competition run as part of ‘National Short Story Week’.
George Piper and Robert Walker, both 13, were challenged to create a 1,000 word tale entitled ‘The Choice’.
Their stories will be published in an e-book showcasing young writers.
George’s story was about two brothers and how their relationship develops when tables turn and the weaker one becomes the hero.
Robert created a fantasy tale of a king who is removed from the throne for saving the life of a criminal, however he then turns on the monarch in a gripping twist at the end.
Helen Millman-Jones, the boys’ teacher, who entered them in the competition said: “I’m so proud of the boys, it’s a very prestigious competition and for them to be national runners up against hundreds of applicants is a great achievement. Doing well in the competition is a great foundation for the boys’ confidence with writing.”
