Natter group top their titfer target by completing an amazing 19,736 tiny drinks bottle bonnets

It was hats off to Seaton Age UK’s Knit and Natter group last week for completing 19,736 tiny bonnets to raise money for their charity.

The amazing total far exceeded the 12,500 target they set at the start of the year, after joining Innocent Drinks’ Big Knit campaign.

For each be-hatted smoothie bottle sold, Innocent gives 25p to Age UK.

This is the tenth year the firm has run the project and to celebrate the milestone it decided to put hats on one million smoothie drinks bottles during November.

To help meet the target Seaton Age UK’s knitting ladies were asked to boost production this year – a challenge they were more than equal to, although with a little help from their friends.

Holidaymakers along with family, friends and neighbours helped with production.

The group says it is grateful to all who lent a hand, including those who donated wool.

Now the team has started a new project knitting fingerless mittens or ‘wrist warmers’ as part of the ‘keep warm’ campaign. These will be sold at craft fairs in the run up to Christmas to help fund the costs of keeping the Age UK drop-in centre at ‘Number One’, Harepath Road, running over the winter months.

The friendly and informal Knit and Natter Group meets at the centre on Thursday afternoons between 1.30pm and 3.30pm and is open to all.

There is no charge, just 60p for tea and a biscuit.
