Event organisers delighted with support despite the snow
THE snow may have kept some visitors away but Hawkchurch’s annual Christmas tree festival still managed to raise £360.
Organisers were delighted with the total in spite of the icy conditions.
Some 30 trees were on display and people paid £1 to vote for their favourite.
A coffee morning raised a further £160 which was donated to the Devon Air Ambulance – the chosen charity of winning tree exhibitors, Susan Bartlett and her son Tom.
Top tree in the children’s section was entered by the village primary school on whose behalf the cup was collected by pupil Imogen Wallis. Other prizes were awarded to Sue Beedham, Ann Lewis and Hazel Stapleforth.
Festival organiser Jean Ransford said despite the weather the event was a big success with the illuminated trees looking “absolutely beautiful”.
The money will go to the church flower fund.
