Help for dementia sufferers

New scheme launched to support those living with the condition.
Devon County Council is working with the Alzheimer’s Society to support people living with the condition.
Together they have launched a scheme that will allocate trained dementia support workers to people at diagnosis, to work with them and their families, helping them find their way through the support available.
It will be run for the council by the charity and the new service will include a hotline with calls going to trained dementia advisors who will be able to respond to enquiries.
The number will be promoted before the service starts in January 2013.
Dementia support workers will be based across Devon, and will be supported by volunteers who will also be working closely with individuals and their carers.
