Hospiscare has launched a new appeal, to help patients and their families through the pain and sadness of terminal illness. The Ease the Pain campaign aims to raise 3.5 million this year, which will enable the charity to continue caring for patients and their families in Honiton - by providing vital new pain-relieving equipment and funding a wide range of services, including specialist community nursing, day care sessions, bereavement services and complementary therapies. The charity provides dedicated medical and practical care and support for local people with their families, to help them cope with progressive disease. Angela Phillips, who manages a team of specialist nurses across East Devon said: "The service that we provide is a lifeline. "Looking after patients and their carers in their own homes is an extremely important part of what we do, and 24 hour advice and help is available. "Through years of experience we have gained an insight into patients' complex needs as they approach the end of life and this enables us to deliver holistic care. "We could not provide the service without the hard work and generosity of our support group, volunteers, donors and supporters, and I hope that as many people as possible get behind the appeal, so we can continue to make a difference every day." Hospiscare has an active support group in Honiton, as well as a charity shop in High Street. A donation of 5 will buy vital clinical supplies, such as syringes or dressings and 20 would provide a complementary therapy session for a patient or carer.Anyone can support the appeal and help Hospiscare ease the pain of terminal illness by calling (01392) 688020 to make a credit card donation, by sending donations to Hospiscare, Dryden Road, Exeter, EX2 5JJ, or by visiting www.hospiscare.co.uk
