New drop in clinic for housing, employment, financial and education advice.
A new drop in service is to target young ‘sofa surfers’ in Axminster.
The weekly clinic, which is the first of its kind in the area, offers advice to young people on housing, employment, education, debt and financial planning.
So far around 15 people have visited the service based in Long Ragg Court, in Lyme Road.
Chris O’Neill, an independent futures support worker, said: “The drop-in clinic is helping to identify local young people who are currently ‘sofa surfing’ in the town.
“We have already provided housing advice to several young people to help them gain more secure accommodation arrangements.
“Without stable accommodation, it is even more difficult for young people to access training and employment and play a meaningful role in society.”
The new drop-in service is available for 16-24 year olds and runs weekly on Fridays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm in the communal room.
