One of the world’s longest surviving heart and kidney transplant recipients has taken his charity fundraising past the £100,000 mark.

Retired West Dorset farmer Henry Smith, 74, holds a ball each year in aid of a host of worthy causes.

Residents from across East Devon and West Dorset again supported this year’s event and raised £5,000, bringing the total over the 26 years since Mr Smith had his pioneering operation to £104,608. This year’s recipients include Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Dorset Renal Unit, Diabetes UK, Cancer Research, Weldmar Trust, Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, Young Epilepsy, Thorncombe First Responders and Harefield Transplant Club.
