Seaton has a new town councillor – a familiar face to many as the man who delivers their Midweek Herald.

Jack Rowland defeated Eric Bowman in Thursday’s by-election by 779 votes to 273.

The vacancy was caused because of the resignation of John Macdougall.

Mr Rowland moved to Seaton in 2003 after a career in the life insurance industry and has become actively involved in the community as a volunteer driver, taking people to medical appointments and as a member of the local community speedwatch team.

He said: “For over a year I have been lobbying councillors for action from the county council to improve road safety on Seaton Down Hill regarding the speed limits.”

Mr Rowland likes to keep fit and says delivering some 300 Midweek Heralds every week helps him do just that.
