YOUR Midweek Herald crosses continents, not just county borders, from time to time - most recently making an appearance at the Bridge on the River Kwai, in Thailand.Pictured holding the well-travelled copy is Honiton resident Tony Simpson. He has just returned from a 24-day trip, touring the historic locations and monuments of the Far East.Together with his wife, Edna, he visited Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan and China, ending up at the Bird's Nest stadium."My breath was literally taken away by the size and majesty of the Olympic stadium, in Beijing," he said. "Thousands of people from all over the world were there on a pilgrimage to see the stadium."The infrastructure, the underground and road systems, are easy to use and so spacious. If we can do as well, we should be very pleased."Mr Simpson added: "The tour convinced me that America is declining, while the prestige of the East, especially that of China, is rising.
