Victoria Baker, 21, of Gerway Close, said: "I was looking out the window and saw a big explosion, sparks and smoke rise into the air, then all the power went off in the field nearby.

"All the neighbours then started coming out to see what was going on."

A Western Power Distribution spokesman said: "It was a transformer fuse fault - 46 customers have been affected and have been left without power since 10am.

"Engineers are on there way to the scene and estimate that everyone's power will be back on by midday."
