There were more Santas in Honiton than the North Pole on Saturday - thanks to the town’s hard-working carnival committee.

It staged the annual Honiton Christmas Carnival and attracted a big sprinkling of people in red and white outfits.

There was plenty of tinsel and glitter, as well as other festive props, to give the event a real Christmas feel.

Sidvale Carnival Club changed the name of its massive entry for one night only - to Ho! Ho! Ho! - and there was even a flurry of snow along the route, courtesy of those comic class wizards Nunsford Nutters.

The Nutters used a machine to pump fake snow into High Street and were contenders for the only prize of the night, the Spirit of Christmas trophy.

In the end, it was Honiton’s own Fusion Carnival Club that claimed the accolade.

Its members changed props on the float and danced in Santa suits with wrapped parcels - all to the tune of Last Christmas by Wham!.

Members of Honiton and District Carnival Committee took part in the parade in fancy dress and the town’s royal float was transformed for the night.

The carnival was held in reasonably mild conditions, with just the odd spot of drizzle.
