HONITON Town Council is to pursue complaints about traffic problems in Dowell Street and is to call on Devon County Council and East Devon District Council to carry out traffic and environmental surveys.
However, the majority of councillors voted on Monday night to ask for the surveys as part of the planning application for the proposed Beehive Community Centre - and not before.
In the meantime, a meeting between local authorities is being called to discuss congestion, pollution and other traffic-related problems on the section of the A373.
Councillor Ron Farnham had asked for surveys to be carried out before the community centre application is submitted, but an amendment, tabled by Councillor Vivienne Ash, was approved.
Councillor Farnham was supported by Councillor Dianne Morgan, who spoke passionately about her concern that developments are being allowed to go ahead without road improvements being carried out. She cited Windmill Court, in Kings Road, as a prime example.
