A Honiton couple will be facing their fear of heights and jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet to boost funds for the town’s new day hospice.

Rob and Pauline Curry, of Bests of Honiton, have signed up to do a tandem skydive on Sunday, September 21, at Dunkeswell Airfield, for Hospiscare’s East Devon Day Hospice Appeal.

More than £130,000 has been raised as part of day hospice appeal, which will help to complete and run the state-of-the-art facility in King Street for a year. The day hospice will serve the communities of East Devon.

“It is such a good cause,” says Pauline. “If we raise a few hundred pounds, why not?”

This will be a first for Rob and Pauline, who have never taken part in a skydive before, and admit they aren’t too keen on heights.

Rob added: “It is going to be a challenge. But, who knows, we might go on to do something adventurous after that.”

The couple have so far raised between £300 and £400 for the charity.

To sponsor Rob and Pauline, pop into Bests of Honiton in High Street.

Around 16 people have signed up to take part in the Hospiscare skydive event. Spaces are still available. Anyone interested in booking a place or finding out more can call Celia Wilkinson at Hospiscare on 01392 688020.
