Craig Boyde will be cycling from Watchet in Somerset to West Bay in Dorset on Sunday, May 17.

A Honiton man is literally doubling his efforts to raise money for charity - by opting to pedal to the start of a 51-mile fundraising cycle ride from the finish line.

Craig Boyde will be cycling from Watchet in Somerset to West Bay in Dorset on Sunday, May 17.

The coast-to-coast challenge is organised by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance - and it is third time lucky for Craig, who has been trying to participate since 2011.

The 43-year-old delivery driver said: “I have done rides before but not for charity.

“I have been applying for the last four years but managed to get in early this time.”

But Craig is not just gearing up for this coastal ride.

He has decided to cycle to the start of the fundraiser in Watchet from the finish line in West Bay - an additional 51 miles.

This means he will have to cover more than 100 miles in total.

“I am a little bit nervous, I must admit” Craig added. “On the first length of my ride, I will be cycling completely alone and unsupported.

“I have got to get everything right - especially the timing.

“I have to get myself there and have enough energy to ride on.”

Craig has set himself a fundraising target of £250, all of which will be donated to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Those wishing to donate to his ride can do so via his online fundraising page - www.justgiving.com/Craig-Boyde
