Honiton golf society raises more than £1,500 for breast cancer charity

Honiton Wine Bar Golf Society met to celebrate the triumphs of its 2015 season at its annual gala prize-giving dinner last week.
The meal was held on Tuesday (January 19) and 20 of the regular golfers enjoyed a meal ahead of the prizes, charity raffle and auction.
Throughout the year, the players have been collecting for Breast Cancer UK, by holding raffles, money collected from penalty fines, a swear box and a series of silly games.
With the help of several companies, including Honiton Wine Bar, the Deer Park Hotel and AG Signs and Print, a total of £1,564 was raised - smashing the previous year’s achievements.
The golf society, which has an ethos about the fun and enjoyment of the game than outright competitiveness, recognised Noel Gregory as overall winner for 2015 and presented him with the club shield.
Martin Parker was presented with the ‘AG Signs Player of the Year’ Cup for outstanding character, support of the society and sportsmanship.
John Dowling was elected captain and Peter Gocher as vice captain for the 2016 season.
Both thanked Richard Hooper for his excellent stewardship during the past year. The Honiton Wine Bar Golf Society plays local courses monthly during the summer season and welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
Carol Sumner, proprietor of Honiton Wine Bar, said: “It’s great to be able to introduce people and see friendships form within our little bistro. I’m very proud of the generosity of our customers and the great work they do for charity.”
Those interested in joining the society can ask at the wine bar for details of its next outing.
